Ukraine's Major Military Aid Request to Germany: What's on the List
A Detailed Wishlist Worth Billions
Ukraine has submitted a new formal military aid request to Germany, according to the German outlet BILD. The document lists specific weapons and equipment Ukraine considers critical for its defense — covering air defense systems, armored vehicles, engineering machinery, and electronic warfare tools.
The level of detail in the request reflects how systematically Ukraine is approaching its procurement needs, translating battlefield experience into precise technical requirements.
Air Defense Remains the Top Priority
The largest portion of the request focuses on air defense — a consistent theme throughout the war:
- 4 new IRIS-T fire units, building on systems Germany has already delivered
- 1,500 guided missiles for IRIS-T SLM (medium range) and 500 for IRIS-T SLS (short range)
- 200,000 rounds of 40mm ammunition for GEPARD anti-aircraft guns, primarily intended for drone interception
The sheer volume of GEPARD ammunition requested underlines how drone-intensive the conflict has become. Countering mass UAV attacks demands enormous quantities of anti-aircraft rounds.
Ground Vehicles and Engineering Equipment
The second major category covers armored and engineering vehicles:
- 1,000 mine-protected personnel carriers
- 200 tracked vehicles of various configurations
- 30 demining engineering vehicles and 20–30 WiSENT-type machines
- 200 off-road vehicles for special operations forces
The emphasis on demining equipment reflects the scale of the mine threat along the front line — one of the most significant obstacles to ground maneuver.
Electronic Warfare and Radar: Fighting Drones at Scale
Perhaps the most telling section of the request involves counter-drone tools:
- 1,000 GPS jammers to disrupt enemy UAV navigation
- 200 mobile ground radars for aerial target detection
These aren't isolated requests — they represent a networked approach to drone defense. Ukraine is not looking for a few devices; it needs enough hardware to cover extensive frontline sectors systematically.
Germany Has Not Yet Responded
Berlin has so far declined to comment on the specifics of the request. Germany remains one of Ukraine's most significant defense partners, having already supplied multiple IRIS-T systems and GEPARD units.
Whether and how much of this list will be fulfilled remains to be seen. What the request makes clear, however, is that Ukraine continues to translate hard-won operational experience into precise, scalable defense requirements — communicating them to allies in concrete numbers rather than general appeals.
