Ukraine's 16th Army Aviation Brigade Honored for Battlefield Courage
A Presidential Commendation for Army Aviators
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed Decree No. 450/2025, awarding the 16th Separate Army Aviation Brigade «Brody» the honorary distinction «For Courage and Valor». The decoration is conferred upon units that have shown exceptional bravery in defending Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
About the «Brody» Brigade
Stationed in the city of Brody, Lviv Oblast, the 16th Brigade is one of the most experienced aviation units in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, its crews have carried out a broad range of combat missions, including:
- fire support for ground forces along the front line;
- troop and cargo transport into active combat zones;
- medical evacuation of the wounded;
- aerial reconnaissance and participation in special operations.
Flying Under Fire
Army aviation operates at low altitudes and in close proximity to the front — an environment defined by dense enemy air-defense systems. Every sortie the «Brody» crews fly carries significant risk, yet the brigade's pilots and ground personnel have consistently demonstrated professionalism under extreme pressure.
Aviation's Role in Modern Warfare
The operational record of the 16th Brigade underscores how vital rotary-wing aviation remains in a high-intensity, hybrid conflict. As manned helicopters increasingly operate alongside unmanned systems, the combined approach is reshaping how close air support and battlefield logistics are conducted.
The state recognition bestowed upon the brigade is more than a tribute to one unit — it reflects the enduring importance of army aviation in Ukraine's broader defense effort.
